In a nutshell:
The upcoming weekend presents great opportunities for outdoor activities besides Saturday morning. Enjoy it!
When is the next chance of rain? My yard is starting to develop brown patches and I’m thinking I might need to water my trees here soon if they don’t get a sip of water. It seems like it has been 3 or 4 weeks since we’ve seen any real rain. Any of the models show rain soon?
The El Nino pattern we are in means the jet stream will stay well north of the area for the foreseeable future. While we will have some weak systems moving through (this weekend and possibly mid-week next week) from time to time they will not be big rain producers (generally in the 0.10″ to 0.25″ range). So expect lots of sunny warm days with cool nights with just occasional rainy interruptions from these weak systems for the next few weeks. The good news is that most trees are in the process of shutting down for the season, so the abundant deeper soil moisture from earlier in the summer will sustain them through the fall. If you have young trees it would be a good idea to water them, but older trees will be fine.
