blizzard of 2009 to spare mid south

I know some of you are not happy with that but at least it will most likely snow late tonight into Sunday across the region.

– light rain should change to snow overnight

– temps will remain above freezing throughout most of this in the bwg area limiting accumulations even with almost .25 qpf.

– overall i expect maybe a half inch late tonight and another half inch of snow saturday night could be a little more in a few spots

storm video also includes my thoughts for the rest of the state please follow the link if you wish to watch.

farther northeast this will be one heck of a storm from dc to Boston with many areas over 1 foot. Some NFL games on the east coast may be really fun to watch.

Weekend Forecast

As expected, the Arctic high will shift to our east overnight into the early morning hours of Saturday. This return flow will bring showers into our area for Saturday. The 12 UTC run of  both the GFS and NAM agree that we should start to see rain in our area somewhere between 2 and 5 o’clock Saturday. As the high continues to shift to the east so will the rain, but don’t expect the rain to exit our area until Sunday afternoon. After the rain ends on Sunday  you can expect the rest of the day to remain mostly cloudy.  Both Saturday and Sunday will be warmer than what we have seen the past few days. Saturday the high will be around 45 degrees and Sunday 48. Low temperatures will also be warmer with a low for Saturday night around 37 and Sunday night near 42. Look for the start of your work week to warm up on Monday with a high near 60 but then cool right back down again on Tuesday. Thanks for checking your weekend forecast.

Cold!!!

The rest of today will remain sunny and very cold. The high will struggle to get above freezing. Tonight will once again be very cold with the low near 20 degrees. Friday morning will be cold, but should get a little warmer as the day progresses with a high near 40. Friday will be mostly sunny. These very cold temperatures are a result from the arctic high that is sitting over our area.  Early Saturday morning the high will start to shift east.  The shifting of the high to the east will allow the return flow to advect moisture into our region from the Gulf of Mexico. This will bring showers into our area later Saturday afternoon and into Sunday morning. Come back Friday for an update on your weekend forecast.

First flakes of the year?

Cold front has passed through the area and a few sprinkles will hang around through this morning. Cloud deck will remain in place for much of today before dissipating into the evening hours as a high pressure center works its way in from the southwest. Chilly temperatures will result from the cold front passing, bringing our high temperature to only 45 degrees! Continue reading
