On this day, in 1945, the United States of America saw not one, but two tragedies in the span of one day. As the country was focused on the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the south central states fell victim to a tornado outbreak. At this time in history, the term “tornado” was not allowed to be broadcasted for the sake of creating hysteria amongst the public. Of the several tornadoes, an F-5 tore through Antlers, Oklahoma and took the lives of sixty-nine people. Many blame the misuse of meteorological terms for the deaths of these people.
