Warm Weather On The Horizon

Happy Easter,

Hope everyone had a great day today. Temperatures seemed to be a little bit below average today with some light winds and some light rain. Making the weather not ideal to be outside for most of the day. The good news, as we head into next week is that warmer temperatures are expected by mid week. Highs in the upper 70’s and even low 80’s can be expected late this week with temperatures gradually warming up following Monday. the chances of rain are to remain low for most of the week making for many opportunities to get outside and mow that lawn or take a walk. Only 251 more days until Christmas! Have a good Week!

Dodged Another!

Happy Friday everyone! Yesterday we had an evening severe threat that resulted in so damaging winds and a lot of rain. Warren county almost was under another tornado warning as it passed just barely to our north. Looking ahead, the rest of Friday is looking quite nice as we are expecting a high of 71 and a low of 52 with mostly clear skies. Saturday will be 68 with a low of 42. Sunday will be a bit of a cooler day with a high of only 60 and partly cloudy skies. Enjoy Easter Sunday! I have a birthday and it’s easter! I will be busy enjoying the weather and family this weekend.

Signing out,

Today in Weather History

Good evening to you! Easter is right around the corner, can you believe it? We sure can’t!

On this day, in 1935, the Great Plains lived through the historical “Black Sunday.” In the midst of the Dust Bowl, to which took place from 1930 to 1936, a severe dust storm devastated the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. So, you may be wondering: what does this have to do with weather? A lot, actually! This storm was the direct result of a combination of conditions, including dry soil (resulting from a four-year drought), the moving-out of a cold air mass, and the propagation of a strong cold front. Below is a photo taken near Beaver, Oklahoma. It doesn’t even look real!

Have a wonderful Easter! Take some time off to spend it with your loved ones! God bless you!

Today in Weather History

Good morning, everyone! How are you doing today? We hope well!

On this day, in 1945, the United States of America saw not one, but two tragedies in the span of one day. As the country was focused on the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the south central states fell victim to a tornado outbreak. At this time in history, the term “tornado” was not allowed to be broadcasted for the sake of creating hysteria amongst the public. Of the several tornadoes, an F-5 tore through Antlers, Oklahoma and took the lives of sixty-nine people. Many blame the misuse of meteorological terms for the deaths of these people.

Did you learn something new? We hope so!

Mason’s Monday Outlook 4/11

Good morning, folks, and happy Monday!

Today’s Forecast

For today, expect a warm and wet day. Rain chances persist throughout the day with temperatures hovering around the mid 60s. The potential rain increases in intensity tonight, with up to an inch of rain possible overnight. Temperatures overnight remain mild in the upper 50s. Thunderstorm potential is marginal at best today, but any rain maker like this presents a flood risk. Always remember to turn around, don’t drown, and stay tuned to your local forecast if traveling.

What to Watch For

Our rain chance today carries over into the first half of Tuesday, followed by a brief calm period through most of Tuesday night into Wednesday. After that, our next rainmaker moves into the area. This brings, yet again, a chance for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the area. In fact, The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted our region with slight to enhanced potential for severe weather for Wednesday into Wednesday night. Please stay tuned to the forecast for this looming potential.

Weather Fact!

On this date in 1991, a world record was broken. This would be for the record for the longest distance a piece of tornado debris has been carried. According to the National Weather Service, “A personal check was blown from a home in Stockton, KS by an F3 tornado and was found in Winnetoon, NE; 223 miles away.” That is crazy far!

Have a great week everyone 🙂

Chilly Weekend Ahead

Happy Friday everyone and it’s a chilly one! Today’s high is expected to only be 47 degrees and with a slight breeze. It feels like a winter day: cold, slight breeze, and cloudy. The cold temperatures continue through Saturday with highs around just 50 degrees and lows around freezing. So expect to see some frost, especially in those valleys. Sunday we can expect temperatures right around 70 with partly cloudy skies and I don’t know about you, but I plan to get out to go spelunking. Enjoy your weekend.

Today in Weather History

Good evening to you! Let’s celebrate the upcoming weekend with some weather history!

On this day, in 1980, the Great Plains fell victim to severe thunderstorms that produced tornadoes, specifically in the central region of Arkansas. Of the various tornadoes, one in particular was rated an F-3 on the Fujita Scale, resulting in $2.5 million of damage. Areas mostly impacted were St. Louis and St. Charles. In general, these storms produced damaging winds and even baseball size hail. Isn’t that crazy?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Cold Blast on the Horizon

Good Morning,

As we get closer to the coming weekend another blast of cold air will impact the region dropping temperatures down into the low 30’s across portions of Western Kentucky. Some mixed precipitation may come along with the cold air but I would say the chances of that are slim. The Good news is that this cold air will only last through the weekend which high temperatures in the 70’s on the way as we head into next week. Have a nice day!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Good afternoon, everyone! Welcome back to the blog!

Who else is over the gloom? We are! For today, it will stick around, as our region of the state will remain between two low pressure systems, promoting high cloud cover and widespread shower chances. As of now, no thunderstorms are expected to enter our vicinity and precipitation totals will remain low. Don’t forget an umbrella before you head out to the workplace today! In the afternoon, temperatures will warm to the lower 60’s, and by nightfall, temperatures will cool back down to the upper 40’s.

Have a great day!

Mason’s Monday Outlook 4/4

Good morning, folks, and happy Monday!

Today’s Forecast

For today, expect a mild and showery day. A slight chance of light showers will persist throughout the afternoon, with temperatures climbing into the mid 60s. That shower chance will last throughout the night, as temperatures drop into the lower 50s with cloudy skies.

What to Watch For

Shower chances today turn to thunderstorm chances Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Overall, the week should consist of mild temperatures, cloudy skies, and plenty of rain. While flooding concerns look minimal at this moment, the chance of thunderstorms make it worth monitoring. Additionally, the threat for severe weather at this time is marginal at best. Stay tuned, and stay dry this week!

Weather Fact!

We’ve all heard the term “April showers bring May flowers”, but does that phrase actually fit for our region? According to USClimateData, here in Bowling Green, May is actually the wetter month on average (5.63 inches of average precipitation) than April (4.21 inches of average precipitation). So, while the April showers may bring the May Flowers, the May showers definitely help too!

Have a great week everyone 🙂
