A few folks in the northern part of the state, around the Louisville area, saw their first snowflakes of the season this past week! While there were no flakes flying around here in Bowling Green, we have seen snow as early as October 18th, back in 1989 (NWS). Guess we will have to wait a little while longer for that!
Enjoy the nice weather, and have a great weekend everyone! 🙂

It is shaping up to be a beautiful October Friday around the region! You can expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the low 70s and a slight cool breeze. For tonight, we maintain mostly clear skies with temperatures dipping to near 40. In some more rural areas, lows could bottom out in the mid-to-upper 30s. This has prompted a frost advisory for the region for tonight. Be sure to protect any sensitive vegetation as we get our first true taste of some cooler autumn air.
What to Watch For
For the the weekend, expect cooler temperatures and continued calm conditions. Saturday and Sunday will both bring sunny skies with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s. Saturday night into Sunday morning, the cold will be slightly more intense, prompting a freeze watch for the region. Temperatures in the mid 30s in the city with temperatures near or at freezing possible in more rural areas. Again, take appropriate frost and freeze preventative measures. Next week looks to bring a slight warming trend, with showers possible by Wednesday.
Weather Fact!
If we do see a freeze (temperature at or below 32 degrees) on Sunday morning, it will be the earliest since 2014. That year, the temperature dipped to 32 degrees in Bowling Green on October 5th. Last year, Bowling Green did not see its first freeze until November 3rd. (KY Mesonet).
A bit of chill in the air sounds exciting to me! Maybe a flannel, and a haunted house are in order? Regardless how you spend it, have a great weekend everyone!
Happy Monday everyone! I hope you enjoyed another lovely fall weekend. This weekend wasn’t the most exciting when it comes to weather, other than hurricane Ian, but the clear pattern will continue to hold. This week we can expect clear skies and highs in the upper 70s. Weather Fact!(Ian Edition)
Hurricane Ian made landfall this past Wednesday on Cayo Costa Island, Florida as a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150mph. The state of Florida is in an ongoing state of emergency for the immense rainfall, wind damage, and storm surge. Ian has redeveloped into a hurricane over the Atlantic, and is expected to strike the Carolinas next.
That’s all for today! Have a great weekend everyone!
Happy Monday everyone! Or maybe not if you’re having one of those Mondays. Let’s take a look at the forecast for the week ahead!
Tonight: Clear skies with a low of 41 degrees.
Tuesday: Expect clear skies with a high of around 73 degrees with a slight breeze. Tuesday night expect clear skies, again, with a low around 40! Chilly! Isolated frost cannot be ruled out.
Wednesday: Clear skies all day and night. High around 70 and low around 46.
Thursday: Expect clear skies once again and some wind gusts up to 15mph. Thursday night expect a low of 48 and a slight breeze.
The week ahead seems like a nice and cool fall week. Hurricane Ian will be making landfall around Wednesday night in Florida. The models have it slowing down to bring flooding to most of the west coast before moving north. We could get what remains of it this weekend, depending on its track.
Everyone is waking up to much cooler temperatures across the region as we are looking at a relief from the late summer heat. For today, expect a picture perfect day with highs in the low 70s with abundant sunshine and a slight breeze. For tonight, clouds build in with temperatures falling into the upper 50s. Get out there and enjoy the taste of fall weather today!
What to Watch For
This weekend we warm things up slightly, with Saturday and Sunday highs in the low 80s. A small chance of a few isolated showers exists for your Saturday, otherwise the weekend will be calm. It should be a great weekend to get out and enjoy the weather! Looking ahead to next week, the weather is looking absolutely beautiful with sunny skies and cooler temperatures like we have today. You might even have to break the jacket out a couple mornings next week!
Weather Fact!(Tropics Edition)
Today, for this segment, let’s focus on the activity in the tropics. It is September, after all, the most active month for tropical activity. First of all, Hurricane Fiona is moving just past the island of Bermuda as a high-end Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 125mph. High winds and heavy rains are impacting the area currently, as Fiona tracks northward to Eastern Canada. An impending landfall in Eastern Canada is not common, but is not unheard of either. Landfall there will produce hurricane=force winds and heavy rain and winter precipitation. Elsewhere, there are two tropical depressions to track. Tropical depression 10 does not present any major threat now, as it is still far out at sea. Tropical depression 9, however, currently developing in the Lower Caribbean presents a much higher threat. Many forecast models have this system making landfall somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico, specifically Florida. Definitely something to keep an eye on as tropical systems have been known to occasionally impact our weather here locally.
That’s all for today! Have a great weekend everyone!
